A PROPOSED BACHELOR DEGREE CURRICULUM IN MUSIC FOR NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

Abstract


The success of music programme in Universities depends on how much emphasis that is laid on the proper music curriculum due to the fact that music study at degree level trains students to become professional musicians, educationists, ethnomusicologists, music producers, composers, performers and many more. Therefore, it is relevant that the contents of music curriculum should aim at producing qualified graduate that will contribute positively to the society. Award of Bachelor Degree in Music should focus on the area of specialization that the students choose from their fourth year specialization options due to the fact that Awarding a B.A in Music without specifying the specialization, portrays the students as being a genius in all areas of Specialization and this needs to be corrected. Hence, this paper tends to propose a degree music curriculum that will effectively expose the students in different options of music specialization.
