Music and Dance as Playway Methods for Effective Teaching and Learning Among Children of Pre Primary Schools in Ogun State

Abstract


The study examined music and dance as playway methodsfor effective teaching and learningamong children of pre primary schools in Ogun State. The study adopted a descriptive surveyresearch design. The population comprises three (3) local government areas in Ogun State. Arandom sampling technique was used t o select 50 pre primary school teachers from each of theselected three local governments to make a total of 150 respondents as a sample for the study. Aself developed questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. It was developed on a2 Li kert scale of Agreed and Disagreed. The instrument was moderated by experts who affirmedits validity. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha. Datacollected were analyzed using simple percentage and standard deviation statis tical tools. Theresearch findings revealed that integrating music and dance as playway methods in pre primaryeducation offers numerous benefits for children's holistic development. It provides a powerfulapproach to effective teaching and learning. Educa tors can create a joyful and inclusive learningenvironment that promotes children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development byincorporating music and dance into the curriculum. This integration inspires children to explore,create, and con nect, laying a solid foundation for their lifelong learning journey. Therefore,teachers should develop different customized learning activities by creating a joyful environmentand shall plan the activities ranging from simple to complex. Teachers should be encouraged toparticipate in professional development programmes incorporating music and dance in preprimary classrooms. These programmes can provide training on effective teaching strategies,curriculum integration, and the use of music and dance to e nhance learning outcomes.
