An Artistic Study of the Poetry of Complaint about the State of the Nation by Abdul-Wahid Al-Fulani of the Bad Condition of the Country Title: Oh Nigeria, The Soul is Feeling personified
Abstract
This paper clarifies that complaint poetry represent a sincere depiction of joy, sadness, love, hatred, and the poet’s psychological conditions, giving a clear picture of the poet’s emotional state and the various circumstances experienced. The complaint in Al Fulani’s’’ poetry is not presented independently but rather dispersed within his verses, indicating its interaction with other purposes in his poetry, relating to both personal matters and societal issues. Theirs is a significant intertwining between complaint and general rejection of reality in ‘’Al-Fulani’s’’ poetry, where the poet utilizes it to express his aspiration and frustration, using lamentation as a tool to express his plight and the challenge he faced. This complaint cast his shadows over ‘’Al-Fulani’s’’ poetry, imparting a melancholic tone and a sense of rebellion and general rejection, characterized by its artistic beauty, influencing human psyche and addressing human affairs related to individual and society, reveling social, political and cultural deterioration in search of appropriate solution to human problems and delivering them. It can be concluded that ‘’Al-Fulani’s’’ complaint poetry is born out of suffering, expressing his grief and sorrow, where the complaint appears directly in many of his narratives.
