The scourge of addiction in Nigeria: the primacy of prevention

Abstract


Addiction is a thorn in the flesh and fabric ofthe global community. It is defined by the firstauthor as the long lasting abuse of the user’sbrain primarily. The abuse consequences can beunderstood as the ‘3Ds.’ The first D stands for‘darkness’ resulting from the miseries ofaddiction that leads to time wastages and thenegligence of normal activities particularly thatof self-care. The next D of addiction effects,‘destruction’ is the ruins registered asdestructions to the users, significant others andsocieties’ health, wealth and wellbeing both inthe present and future.
