Abstract

The lgbo people have the belief that good character is better than bad character because both good and bad character have their reward. lt is better to be rewarded because of good character than bad character. ln the lgbo setting, there are certain character that are abhored. Such character include: greed, murder, stealing, kidnapping etc. The increase of these societal vices prompted this research. The researcher specifically wants to base this study on greed using three drama texts: Obidiya by Akoma (1977), Akwa nwa by Chukuezi (1979) and Oku ghara ite by Onyekaonwu (1988) to find out what greed is all about, why people embark on greed, to find out whether there are consequences emanating from greed etc and how the writers portrayed the above. The study is anchored on the mystical of Abrams (2005) as the theoretical framework. The theory gives insight on how the writers bring in the beliefs of the people into their texts to justify the conducts of different characters in their texts. The study is a descriptive one. The findings among others include, people don't always realise that there are punishments that await greed. The study suggests that people should be contented with whatever they have; parents should always be in close contact with their children to counsel and direct them on the way to live in other to avoid greed. The paper is concluded by achieving the aim of the study which is finding out what greed is all about, its reasons, consequences etc.
