Abstract

One of the greatest problems facing mankind is that of climate change. This ecological problem is of great concern to human beings because it has adverse effects ranging from effects on human contents to effects on non-human contents in the environment. Climate change refers to some alterations in the climate system and this is caused mainly by the activities of human beings. Global warming is a term that is closely related to climate change and it refers to the gradual increase in the average temperature of earth’s atmosphere and its oceans and this change is permanently changing earth’s climate forever.1 The effects and impacts of this phenomenon is seen, noticed and felt in all countries and continents of the world including Africa. An example of this is seen in the southern part of Nigeria where gulley erosion has devastated many settlement areas and farmlands, leading to poverty among the local populations. This work therefore, is geared towards exposing the impacts of climate change on Africa with particular focus on Nigeria.
