POLITICAL CULTURE AND ITS INFLUENCING FACTORS AMONG ANAMBRA STATE YOUTHS, NIGERIA

Abstract


The study examined political culture and its influencing factors among Anambra Stateyouths, Nigeria. Predictive and correlation designs, descriptive statistics (central tendency andmeasure of dispersion), as well as inferential statistics (regression analyses) were used. Participantswere 200 persons (100males and 100 females) of 18-30years (M = 24.60, SD = 11.59), sampled throughcluster and incidental method. Measuring instruments were Political Culture Inventory adapted fromAfrican Data Hub for the Study of Democracy. The results showed no significant difference in politicalculture among Anambra State youths from the State’s three political Senatorial zones. Again, all thedimensions of political culture namely Community System, Socio-Cultural System, Psycho-PersonalityFactors, Economic System, Political System, and External Relations were not significant contributorsto political culture of Anambra State youths. It is recommended that youths’ participation in politicsshould be encouraged.
