Using Empowerment through Creativity in Fashion Design for Post-Covid19 Pandemic Unemployment Alleviation

Abstract


Recognizing that fashion design is an emerging trend in SubSaharan Africa with some level ofcreativity empowering the unemployed youth through sk ills acquisition from the fashion schoolcannot be over emphasized. Fashion design manifests art, culture and symbolism, a multi billiondollar industry that creates jobs for designers, models, event organizers, men and women, youngand adults. However, fa shion design needs to be given the proper attention, mostly in publicfashion schools in Nigeria. Given this, this study was conducted on creativity in fashion design: ameans of sustaining clothing and textile among students in private and public fashion designschools for empowerment in southwest Nigeria. Two hundred students were randomly selectedfrom home science management, clothing and textile in four Federal Colleges of Education andtwo Federal Universities in Lagos and Ogun State. In comparison, s eventy students were selectedfrom private fashion schools to make 270 respondents the sample size for the study.
