Abstract

In arbitration proceedings, which have gained traction as a dispute resolution mechanism for the settlement of commercial disputes in Nigeria, the application of legal professional privilege is very crucial in maintaining the balance between the need for disclosure and the obligation to protect the confidentiality of communications between legal practitioners and their clients. Indeed, legal professional privilege is upheld by Nigerian statutes and reinforced by judicial precedents, emphasizing the sanctity of lawyer-client confidentiality. This article provides valuable insights on the extent of the applicability of legal professional privilege in arbitration proceedings seated in Nigeria.
