C.J.S. AZORO

Abstract

This work made a critical analysis of the Anambra State Physical Planning Law and the Awka Capital Development Authority Law with a view to elucidating the apparent conflicts precipitated by the simultaneous operation cum enforcement of both pieces of legislation. This work also considered the provisions of other relevant statatues like the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and the Land Use Act 1978 while highlighting how the current realities in Anambra State undermine the spirit and letters of these laws. Having found that this situation portends several negative effects on physical planning and good governance in Anambra State, this work made appropriate recommendations towards enhancing sustainable development in the society.
