Abstract

The discourse here has Africa as its topical centrality. There is, therefore, a need to succinctly examine Africa within the context of its environment and landscape1. Africa is the second most populous continent in the world2. It occupies almost 20% of the Earth’s land area, and 6% of the Earth’s total surface. It has an estimated population of 1.3 Billion people, and this accounts for 16% of the world’s population. It has a land area of 30,370,000 per kilometer square, and a population density of 36.4 per kilometer square. Africa has several biodiversity, and also has the highest number of mega fauna species. It is separated by the Mediterranean sea from the European continent, and joined to the Asian continent at its northeast extremity by the Isthmus of Suez.
