NATIONAL INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR PROTECTION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS IN NIGERIA

Abstract


The technological dynamism if our society has indeed changed the world and affected many areas of today’s reality and among them is Intellectual Property. It is now possible to produce and disseminate copies of copyrighted works with a mouse click. This has increased the number of copyright violations. It has equally made the enforcement of Intellectual Property rights more complex. Intellectual property regulations and policies in Nigeria are crippled by obsolete and virtually non-existent policies, counterfeiting and anti-piracy system. The need for a more conducive Intellectual Property legal regime to match the ever growing digital environment in Nigeria cannot be over emphasized. In this article, we are going to look at the national institutional framework for protection of intellectual property rights in Nigeria.
