Abstract


This paper examines the social awareness created by the poet personae in Hill Songs andReign of Locust. The collections condemn the ills in society such as failure of leadership,bribery and corruption. Through the use of imagery and some satirical devices, the reader isreawakened into looking deeper at some of the negative issues taken for granted whichhinder the progress of a given society. This study examines the influence of poetry insatirizing vices visible in societies using a sociological approach.
